Yaddo officially opened in 1926 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2014; the 400-acre estate features a rebuilt mansion, gardens, woods, and lakes

Artists reside for two to eight weeks and must apply for admission; in 2024, there were 2,662 applicants for the program

Notable past residents include James Baldwin, Sylvia Plath, Leonard Bernstein, Langston Hughes, and Truman Capote, along with numerous Pulitzer winners and Nobel laureates

The nonprofit is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and private and corporate donations
