Amends Penal Law Section 120.11 to remove the requirement that aggravated assault upon a police officer or peace officer be committed "by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument"

Expands the offense to include any intentional act causing serious physical injury to a police officer or peace officer, regardless of whether a weapon was used

Maintains the classification of aggravated assault upon a police officer or peace officer as a Class B felony

Updates gendered language in the statute to gender-neutral terms ("a person" to "another person," "he" to "such person")

Takes effect immediately upon passage
