Allows courts to set bail or commit to custody any individual who has been designated a sex offender under New York's Sex Offender Registration Act (Article 6-C of the correction law)

Removes the requirement that registered sex offenders be released on their own recognizance or non-monetary conditions when charged with new offenses

Gives judges discretion to fix bail or order detention for registered sex offenders, even for charges that would otherwise be non-bail eligible

Adds sex offender status as a qualifying factor for bail consideration under criminal procedure law sections 510.10, 530.20, and 530.40

Takes effect 30 days after becoming law
