Adds registered security guards working in hospitals or health care facilities to the list of protected persons under New York's assault in the second degree statute (Penal Law § 120.05)

Makes it a Class D felony to intentionally cause physical injury to a registered security guard in a hospital or health care facility while attempting to prevent them from performing their lawful duties

Extends the same assault protections currently given to nurses, emergency medical personnel, and hospital emergency department staff to include security guards in healthcare settings

Takes effect 90 days after becoming law
