Requires the Department of Education to establish a model environmental sustainability education program for K-12 public schools, developed in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Conservation

Defines "sustainability" as development meeting present needs without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own needs, and "education for sustainability" (EFS) as promoting understanding of the interconnectedness of environment, economy, and society

Mandates the program integrate sustainability topics across multiple subject areas including science, geography, mathematics, economics, history, creative arts, and health education with age-appropriate lesson plans

Requires curriculum to address ecological, social, economic, and political systems; the impact of people, business, industry, and government on the environment; and the role of innovative technologies in reducing environmental impact

Program must include assessment strategies emphasizing problem-solving, teamwork, decision-making, and holistic thinking to evaluate effectiveness
