Creates a new class E felony for unlawful storage of a firearm when the improperly stored weapon is subsequently used by another person to commit a crime

Applies when a gun owner fails to safely store a rifle, shotgun, or firearm as required under existing Penal Law sections 265.45 or 265.46

Requires that the crime committed with the improperly stored firearm "reasonably would have been prevented" if the weapon had been stored in compliance with safe storage laws

Takes effect immediately upon enactment
