Authorizes local governing bodies of cities, towns, villages, police districts, and fire districts to remove citizenship requirements for police officers and firefighters through local law, rule, or ordinance

Expands eligibility for civil office holders to include persons who are either U.S. citizens or legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law

Extends the same citizenship or work authorization alternative to special deputy sheriffs, special constables, marshals, police officers, and peace officers appointed to preserve public peace

Removes outdated language referencing convictions under the Selective Draft Act of 1917 and the Federal Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 as disqualifying factors for holding civil office

Designates the legislation as the "We Too Serve NY Act" and takes effect immediately upon passage
