Requires elected or appointed coroners who are not licensed physicians to hold one of the following qualifications: certified nurse practitioner, licensed physician assistant, certified medicolegal death investigator, or an associate's/bachelor's degree in nursing, natural science, forensic science, anthropology, or related field while pursuing medicolegal death investigator certification

Allows current coroners who do not meet the new qualification requirements as of the effective date to complete their existing term of office

Mandates that coroner's physicians appointed by county boards of supervisors must be licensed physicians in New York State

Updates gendered language in existing law from "his" to "their" when referring to coroner's physicians

Takes effect one year after becoming law
