Authorizes the Department of Environmental Conservation to permit crossbow use for taking big game in any area where long bows are permitted, eliminating previous restrictions that limited crossbow use to specific zones and timeframes during archery-only seasons

Removes crossbows from the muzzle-loading firearm season category, effectively reclassifying them as archery equipment

Establishes a 500-foot safety buffer for crossbow discharge near occupied buildings, schools, churches, and playgrounds in Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, with an option for other counties to adopt the same restriction by local law
