School district boards of education may surrender transportation of native high school students enrolled in community schools by submitting written notice to community schools by June 1st of the prior school year.

Surrender notices are valid for one school year and may be renewed annually using the same notification process.

Community schools receiving surrender notices may provide or arrange transportation for high school students and apply to the Department of Education for funding based on per-pupil transportation costs calculated from the student's home district.

The Department of Education shall deduct payments made to community schools from state education aid otherwise paid to the home school district, with the number of transported students included in the district's transportation payment calculations.

Transportation provided by community schools must comply with all Ohio Revised Code provisions and State Board of Education rules regarding school bus construction, equipment, operation, and driver qualifications, and community schools cannot charge fees for transportation funded under this section.
