HB 237 Summary

• Requires health insurers to provide coverage for orally administered cancer medications on the same favorable basis as intravenously administered or injected cancer medications, including equivalent coverage limits, copayments, deductibles, and prior authorization requirements.

• Applies to individual and group health insuring corporation policies, sickness and accident insurance policies, and public employee benefit plans delivered, issued, or renewed in Ohio on or after the bill's effective date.

• Prohibits insurers from requiring enrollees to obtain non-self-injectable medications or immediately compounded medications exclusively from retail pharmacies or mail order pharmacies; must allow at least one of these options.

• Amends section 1739.05 to require multiple employer welfare arrangements operating group self-insurance programs to comply with the new oral cancer medication coverage and medication acquisition requirements.

• Repeals the existing version of section 1739.05 of the Revised Code.
