OH HB26

Prohibits any person employed or engaged as a teacher, principal, administrator, nonlicensed school employee, or bus driver in public or chartered nonpublic schools from inflicting corporal punishment on students as a means of discipline.

Removes provisions that previously allowed school boards to adopt resolutions permitting corporal punishment, local discipline task forces, and opt-out procedures for parents.

Permits use of reasonable force and restraint only for self-defense, protection of persons or property, quelling disturbances, or obtaining dangerous objects from students.

Applies the corporal punishment prohibition to community schools, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) schools, and educational assistants.

Repeals existing sections 3314.03, 3319.088, 3319.41, and 3326.11 of the Revised Code and replaces them with amended versions containing the corporal punishment ban.
