School districts may adopt resolutions to solicit bids and award contracts for selling commercial advertising space on the outside surfaces of school buses, displayed as signs (not painted).

Advertising sales are limited to for-profit entities and prohibit advertisements for alcohol, tobacco, gambling, sexual content, political candidates, public officials, levies, bond issues, or election matters.

School districts must establish a committee of administrators and attorneys to approve all bus advertisements; districts may negotiate advertising provisions in leases or contracts for privately-owned buses.

Donated advertising space or space used by the district itself must comply with the same prohibitions as paid commercial advertising.

State highway patrol inspections cannot fail a school bus solely because of advertising displayed in compliance with this section, and no regulations shall restrict the district's ability to display such advertising.
