Municipal corporations may enter into agreements with other municipalities, townships, port authorities, water/sewer districts, school districts, library districts, health districts, park districts, soil and water conservation districts, water conservancy districts, other taxing districts, and county commissioners to perform services or exercise powers that each entity is legally authorized to perform.

Legislative authorities of contracting subdivisions must authorize such agreements and determine which officers or departments will exercise the powers and duties if not specified in the agreement.

Agreements cannot authorize one entity to levy taxes or exercise investment powers and functions on behalf of another contracting subdivision.

Chapter 2744 liability protections apply to political subdivisions and their employees when providing services outside their boundaries under such agreements.

Employees performing services outside their employing subdivision's boundaries maintain eligibility for pension funds, indemnity funds, and workers' compensation benefits to the same extent as when working within their home subdivision.
