Designates March 2009 as "Deep-Vein Thrombosis Awareness Month" in Ohio in memory of journalist David Bloom, an NBC correspondent who died of fatal pulmonary embolism while covering the Iraq War.

Recognizes that deep-vein thrombosis affects approximately 2 million Americans annually and that fatal pulmonary embolism causes more deaths each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined.

Notes that complications from deep-vein thrombosis claim up to 200,000 American lives annually and that fatal pulmonary embolism is the leading cause of maternal death associated with childbirth.

States that 74 percent of Americans are unaware of deep-vein thrombosis and that fatal pulmonary embolism may be the most common preventable cause of hospital death in the United States.

Directs the Senate clerk to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Coalition to Prevent Deep-Vein Thrombosis.
