Ohio Senate supports the construction of the Detroit River International Crossing, a new six-lane bridge with three lanes bound for the United States and three for Canada, connecting new U.S. and Canadian inspection plazas.

The resolution emphasizes Canada is Ohio's top export market with $35.8 billion in bilateral trade in 2008 and approximately 267,500 Ohio jobs supported by U.S.-Canada trade.

Project is expected to create 10,000 construction jobs and more than 30,000 indirect jobs during construction in the United States.

Michigan and Transport Canada are pursuing a public-private partnership with a long-term concession agreement allowing public ownership of the bridge while enabling private financing, construction, operation, and maintenance.

Ohio Senate encourages investments in host communities including job creation, environmental improvement, increased trade, and recognizes the crossing will have significant economic impact on Ohio's local economies.
