Sub. H.B. No. 100 Summary

• Authorizes the Ohio Department of Health to establish, promote, and maintain a lupus education and awareness program with emphasis on at-risk communities to educate the public, consumers, and health professionals.

• Permits the department to provide staff, establish grant programs for nonprofit lupus organizations, create an intergovernmental council and advisory panel, and coordinate with government agencies and lupus organizations including the Lupus Foundation of America.

• Authorizes the department to conduct needs assessments on lupus awareness and services, develop directories of lupus-related services and providers, and implement statewide public awareness campaigns using various media and community outreach.

• Establishes a grant program for health professional education on lupus diagnosis and treatment, with grant recipients required to develop educational materials, support continuing medical education, conduct workshops, and prepare annual reports.

• Creates the Lupus Education and Awareness Program Fund in the state treasury to receive and manage gifts, grants, and donations for program administration.
