HB 228 Summary

• Amends section 4501.21 and enacts section 4503.524 of the Revised Code to authorize the creation of Power Squadron license plates in Ohio.

• Power Squadron license plates may be issued to owners or lessees of passenger cars, noncommercial motor vehicles, recreational vehicles, and other vehicle classes approved by the registrar of motor vehicles.

• Applicants must pay the regular license tax, applicable motor vehicle tax, a $10 bureau of motor vehicles administrative fee, and a $15 contribution designated for the license plate contribution fund.

• The $15 contribution collected from Power Squadron license plate registrations shall be distributed equally to United States Power Squadron districts 7, 11, 24, and 29 to fund educational boating programs within the state.

• The license plates shall display words and markings selected and designed by Mansfield Power Squadron and approved by the registrar, along with county identification stickers.
