Health care entities must notify patients within 30 days of a physician's employment termination if the patient received services from that physician in the preceding two years.

Notice must include the physician's name and contact information (unless the entity has concerns the physician's conduct could jeopardize patient safety), the termination date, alternative physician contacts, and information on obtaining medical records.

Health care entities may require the physician to send notices if they provide the patient list and contact information.

Exceptions apply to emergency department physicians, hospice medical directors, medical residents/interns/fellows, and physicians at federally qualified health centers and mental health/addiction treatment agencies.

The State Medical Board must revise its rules within six months to implement these notification requirements.
