HB 9 Summary

• Adopts revised Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) provisions for general provisions (Chapter 1301) and documents of title (Chapter 1307), implementing recommendations from the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.

• Reorganizes and renumbers UCC sections with a new numbering system while retaining substantive provisions; moves some existing sections to new numbers (e.g., section 1301.01 becomes 1301.201).

• Updates definitions and terminology throughout the UCC, including replacing "warehouseman" with "warehouse," adding "electronic documents" as a new category of collateral, and clarifying provisions related to control of electronic documents of title.

• Expands UCC coverage to address electronic commerce and digital transactions, including new sections on control of electronic documents of title (1307.106) and reissuance of documents in alternative media (1307.105).

• Repeals six obsolete sections (1301.03, 1301.12, 1302.11, 1307.03, 1307.05, and 1310.14) and applies the revised provisions to transactions entered into on or after the effective date.
