Municipal legislative authorities may enact an ordinance by majority vote to submit to electors a question on whether to exclude their territory from a biting arthropod sanitary district.

The municipal clerk must transmit a certified copy of the exclusion ordinance to applicable boards of elections, which shall place the question on the next general election ballot occurring at least 90 days after certification, with publication of the full ballot text at least 15 days prior to the election.

If a majority of electors vote in favor of exclusion, the municipal clerk transmits certified election results to the court of common pleas that established the district, the county auditor, and county treasurer.

Upon receipt of certified election results, the court of common pleas shall enter an order excluding the municipal corporation's territory from the sanitary district, effective on the first day of January or July, whichever is earlier, following the vote.

County auditors shall remove any sanitary district assessments on properties in the excluded municipality effective on the first day of January or July following the vote, and county treasurers shall cease collection of such assessments from that same date.
