S.B. 190 Summary

• Establishes the Ohio Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force to advise the governor and legislature on strategies to reduce teen pregnancy and monitor implementation of prevention programs.

• Requires hospitals with emergency services to provide emergency contraception information, offer emergency contraception, and provide sexually transmitted infection assessments and treatment to sexual assault victims.

• Mandates health insurance coverage of FDA-approved contraceptive drugs and devices and related physician services on the same terms as other prescription drugs and medical services.

• Requires pharmacies to dispense requested contraceptives without delay, locate alternative pharmacies if products are unavailable, and prohibits employees from intimidating, deceiving, or obstructing contraceptive service delivery.

• Updates school health education curriculum to include comprehensive sexual health education with medically accurate information about contraception and disease prevention, while allowing parental opt-out and emphasizing abstinence.
