S.B. No. 200 Summary

• Creates the Edison Jobs Development Program within the Department of Development to support Ohio manufacturing companies transitioning to or expanding in specified technology and market sectors (advanced materials, bioscience, advanced energy, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, and electronics).

• Eligible companies must be Ohio-based manufacturers seeking to convert operations to targeted technologies, attend required outreach seminars, and match grant amounts dollar-for-dollar; grants range from $10,000 to $100,000.

• Requires applicants to submit detailed information about financial condition, leadership commitment to job creation, manufacturing capabilities, facility conditions, and management of new opportunities; Department of Development reviews applications with Edison centers.

• Grants recipients receive training and consulting services provided by industry experts selected and managed by Edison centers, which also monitor progress on jobs created or retained, cost savings, and revenue increases on at least a quarterly basis.

• Appropriates $10,000,000 for fiscal years 2012 and 2013 to fund the Edison Jobs Development Program through the Third Frontier Research and Development Fund Group.
