Second Baptist Church was established in 1834 as a mission of First Baptist Church for local African-American Baptists and led to the formation of more than ten other area churches.

The church has provided moral guidance and spiritual motivation to its congregation in the Greater Columbus community for 175 years under the leadership of pastors including current pastor Dr. Howard T. Washington.

The Senate of the 129th General Assembly applauds Second Baptist Church on its 175th Anniversary and honors all those celebrating this milestone.

The Clerk of the Senate will transmit an authenticated copy of this resolution to Second Baptist Church.
