House of Representatives honors late President James Abram Garfield as a 2013 Great Ohioan selected by the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and Capital Square Foundation

Garfield was born in Orange Township on November 19, 1831, and served as professor and president of Hiram College, Ohio State Senator, Union Army officer, nine-term U.S. Representative, and President of the United States for 200 days before his assassination on July 2, 1881, and death on September 19, 1881

Resolution recognizes Garfield's exemplary civic contributions, generous dedication to public service, and responsible citizenship as an inspiration to others

Clerk of the House directed to transmit authenticated copies of the resolution to Garfield's family and the James A. Garfield National Historic Site
