Summary of Sub. S.B. No. 154

• Changes examination requirements for professional engineers and surveyors from "written or written and oral" to written examinations only.

• Modifies educational requirements for engineers with non-accredited curricula, allowing board evaluation of curricula quality as equivalent to ABET-accredited programs instead of automatic rejection.

• Converts professional engineer and surveyor registration renewal from annual to biennial (two-year) cycles, with renewal fees adjusted accordingly and continuing professional development hours increased to 30 hours per two-year period.

• Changes certificate of authorization expiration from annually on June 30 to biennially on June 30, and shifts board annual reporting timeline from July 1 to following end of fiscal year.

• Removes presumption that continuing professional development credit hours comply with regulations based on peer affirmation and gives board greater discretion to dispute claimed credit hours.
