S.B. 195 Summary

• Allows children alleged or adjudicated as abused, neglected, or dependent to attend any of three schools: their prior school, any school in their current residence district, or their last enrolled school.

• Requires immediate enrollment within two full school days regardless of missing records (proof of residency, medical records, transcripts, IEPs, 504 plans) or unpaid fees.

• Mandates the enrolling school district provide transportation if it is the child's residence district; otherwise the county children's services agency must ensure transportation if travel time does not exceed thirty minutes by motor vehicle.

• Allows enrolled children to continue attending their chosen school for the remainder of their public school education without restriction.

• Requires the enrolling school to immediately contact the child's prior school for records and inform the responsible children's services agency or person if immunizations or medical records are needed.
