Establishes qualifications for persons practicing surgical technology in Ohio hospitals and ambulatory surgical facilities, including preparation of operating rooms, handling sterile equipment, and assisting surgical teams.

Permits only licensed health professionals (physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses) or persons meeting specific qualifications to practice surgical technology in hospitals and ambulatory surgical facilities.

Allows practice by individuals who: were actively engaged in surgical technology during the six months before the law's effective date; hold national board certification; completed U.S. military or public health service surgical technology training; or are employed as federal surgical technologists.

Permits recent graduates from accredited surgical technology programs to practice for one year following graduation or the law's effective date, whichever applies later.

Requires annual continuing education of at least 15 hours for certain surgical technologists and authorizes the director of health to issue waivers and conduct compliance inspections with associated fines for violations.
