OH SB242

Increases State Board of Education from 17 to 19 total members, consisting of 11 elected members and 8 appointed members (appointed by governor with senate consent).

Adds ranking minority members of the senate and house education committees as nonvoting ex officio members alongside existing chairpersons of those committees.

Establishes that elected board members are chosen from districts consisting of three contiguous state senate districts, with districts to be as compact as practicable and include both rural and urban areas when possible.

Requires the general assembly to enact legislation establishing new board districts following each apportionment, or requires the governor to designate district boundaries no later than January 31 of the following year.
