S.B. 329 Summary

• Requires the Auditor of State to conduct annual audits of each community school operator and sponsor, with audits of nonpublic operators and sponsors limited to accounts and records related to public funds for school operation or sponsorship.

• Establishes that community school audits conducted by the Auditor of State are exempt from the standard biennial audit requirement for public offices under existing law.

• Creates a school records commission for each community school that must meet at least annually to review applications for disposal of obsolete records and approve records retention and disposition schedules.

• Requires nonpublic community school operators and sponsors to comply with public records disclosure requirements (section 149.43) for all records pertaining to school management or sponsorship.

• Amends existing records retention law to reference new community school records commission procedures and expand records protection requirements to include community school records.
