SB 347 Summary

• Establishes a new "Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment" (MOLST) form process allowing physicians, physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists to issue comprehensive medical treatment instructions covering CPR, medical interventions, antibiotics, and nutrition/hydration.

• Reorganizes and renumbers existing do-not-resuscitate (DNR) law sections (2133.21-2133.26 become 2133.21-2133.29) and expands DNR identification to signify declarations, do-not-resuscitate orders, or MOLST forms rather than just DNR orders.

• Requires MOLST forms to be completed by issuing practitioners with patient or authorized representative signature, specifies form content and placement in medical records, and allows revocation at any time in any manner communicating intent to revoke.

• Provides immunity from criminal prosecution, civil liability, and professional discipline for healthcare providers and emergency medical services personnel who act in good faith according to valid MOLST forms, declarations, or DNR orders.

• Grants physician assistants authority to take actions regarding life-sustaining treatment and DNR orders under physician supervisory plans or healthcare facility policies, consistent with existing certification and collaboration requirements.
