S.B. 353 Summary

• Amends Section 3301.0714 of the Revised Code to require the Education Management Information System (EMIS) to track the targets of student violent behavior resulting in disciplinary actions, identified by classification (student, teacher, or nonteaching employee) rather than by name.

• Requires districts and schools to include identification of persons targeted by violent student behavior in disciplinary reports beginning July 1 following the bill's effective date.

• Mandates the Department of Education submit a one-time report to the General Assembly containing the collected information on violent student behavior targets from the first two school years of implementation, due by October 1 following the second school year.

• Limits the tracking requirement to two years following submission of the departmental report; after that period, districts are no longer required to report target information in the EMIS.
