Am. Sub. S. J. R. No. 9 Summary

• Proposes constitutional amendments to be submitted to Ohio voters at a special election on May 5, 2015, establishing the Public Office Compensation Commission to review and set compensation for elected state officials.

• Creates a nine-member Public Office Compensation Commission appointed by the Governor (2), President of Senate (2), Speaker of House (2), Minority Leaders of Senate and House (1 each), and Chief Justice (1), with members serving two-year terms limited to four consecutive terms.

• Commission shall meet in even-numbered years to review elected office compensation, considering private sector wages, comparable state positions, and Ohio's financial condition, then issue a final compensation plan by December 31 of each even-numbered year.

• Compensation amounts in the final plan take effect July 1 of the following odd-numbered year unless rejected by the General Assembly through a three-fifths vote concurrent resolution; if rejected, General Assembly members receive no compensation increases for their current term.
