H.B. 199 Summary

• Extends Motor Vehicle Repair Board jurisdiction to motor vehicle mechanical repair operators, in addition to collision repair and window tint operators currently regulated.

• Requires all motor vehicle repair facilities to register separately with the board, except facilities conducting both body and mechanical repairs at the same location need only one registration.

• Increases registration fees from $150 to $200 per business location annually, with board authority to adjust fees up to $250 with controlling board approval.

• Dissolves existing Motor Vehicle Repair Board on January 1, 2016 and replaces it with a new seven-member board consisting of two body repair operators, two mechanical repair operators, two window tint operators, and one public representative.

• Establishes six-month grace period before mechanical repair operators must register, unless they were previously required to register as collision repair operators.
