H.B. 496 - Student to Soldiers Support Act (S3A)

• Prohibits school districts, public and nonpublic schools from preventing students serving in uniformed services from participating in extracurricular activities due to absences caused by military service.

• Prohibits public and private colleges from prohibiting students from participating in extracurricular activities due to absences from military service, provided such participation does not conflict with NCAA rules.

• Defines "service in the uniformed services" to include active duty, training, National Guard duty, Ohio organized militia service, and fitness examinations related to military service.

• Amends sections 3314.03, 3326.11, and 3328.24 to require community schools, STEM schools, and college-preparatory boarding schools to comply with the participation protections established in the new sections 3313.5315 and 3345.425.
