H.B. 578 - Housing Court Efficiency and Expansion Act

• Abolishes the Housing Division of the Cleveland Municipal Court effective January 1, 2017.

• Transfers all housing proceedings, staff, and pending cases from the Housing Division to the Civil Division of the Cleveland Municipal Court.

• Eliminates the full-time Housing Division judgeship in Cleveland Municipal Court; housing matters will be handled by civil division judges.

• Maintains the housing divisions in Toledo Municipal Court and the environmental division in Franklin County Municipal Court.

• Requires transfer of all pleadings, records, bonds, files, moneys, and property belonging to the Housing Division to the Civil Division by December 31, 2016.
