H.B. No. 59 Summary

• Increases mandatory prison terms for felons who possessed firearms during commission of felonies from 3 or 6 years to 10 years when firearm was displayed, brandished, indicated, or used to facilitate the crime.

• Increases mandatory prison term from 6 years to 10 years when offender possessed an automatic firearm or firearm equipped with muffler or silencer during felony commission.

• Maintains 1-year mandatory prison term for simple firearm possession during felony (without display, brandishing, or special equipment).

• Prison terms under this bill cannot be reduced and must be served consecutively to the underlying felony sentence and any other mandatory prison terms.

• Applies to sections 2929.14, 2941.141, 2941.144, and 2941.145 of the Ohio Revised Code.
