HB 7 Summary

• Department of education shall not assign overall letter grades, component grades, or rank school districts, community schools, or STEM schools for the 2014-2015 school year.

• 2014-2015 report card ratings shall not be considered when determining sanctions or penalties on schools, and shall not create a new starting point for multi-year determinations.

• School districts, community schools, and STEM schools are prohibited from using 2014-2015 assessment scores to make decisions regarding student promotion, retention, or course credit at any time during a student's academic career.

• Individual student score reports from 2014-2015 assessments may only be released to the student's school district, school, student, or parent/guardian.

• Students who did not take 2014-2015 assessments remain eligible for state scholarships and are exempt from certain penalties, provided they meet all other program requirements.
