Schools must search the Uniform Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System within 30 days of student enrollment and notify the county public children services agency if an active investigation or closed case involving an unknown family location is found.

Applies to principals or chief administrative officers of public schools, chartered nonpublic schools, and nonchartered nonpublic schools, or their designees.

Public children services agencies must conduct an investigation within three business days of receiving school notification to determine if the child or family needs public care or protective services.

Provides civil liability immunity for school officials and employees who conduct the search and take actions in good faith based on the search results.

Information obtained from the system must remain confidential and cannot be retained in student records or submitted to the department of education.
