OH SB266

Amends Ohio Revised Code Section 305.02 to clarify when political party central committees may appoint persons to fill vacancies in county elective offices including county commissioners, prosecutors, auditors, treasurers, sheriffs, and coroners.

Specifies that the relevant political party's central committee must determine the last occupant's party affiliation "at the time the vacancy occurs" rather than at an earlier date.

Requires county central committees to meet within 5 to 45 days of a vacancy and provide at least 4 days' notice to all committee members; a majority present may make the appointment.

Directs the board of county commissioners to make appointments when the last office occupant or officer-elect was not affiliated with a political party at the time of vacancy.

Permits county commissioners to appoint temporary acting officers to serve between when a vacancy occurs and when the permanent appointee qualifies for office.
