Abolishes the estate by dower for marriages going forward, but preserves dower rights that vested before the effective date of the amendment.

Allows surviving spouses whose dower interest vested before this amendment to retain one-third life estate in real property their spouse owned during the marriage.

Provides that surviving spouses without pre-existing dower rights shall receive the distributive share provided under section 2105.06 of the Revised Code instead of dower.

Dower interest terminates upon the death of the spouse or upon granting of an absolute divorce, except for property conveyed, encumbered, or alienated by involuntary sale during the marriage.

Amends sections 2103.02, 2103.09, and 2106.24 of the Revised Code and repeals existing versions of those sections.
