Licensed veterinarians may receive up to two continuing education credits per biennium for performing free spaying and neutering services.

Veterinarians must provide services at an appropriately equipped and staffed facility in conjunction with a county humane society, county dog pound, municipal dog pound, or 501(c)(3) animal protection organization.

For every one hour of free spaying and neutering services performed, veterinarians receive one-half hour of continuing education credit toward the 30-hour biennial requirement.

Veterinarians offering these services must make provisions for free follow-up care for any post-operative complications arising within 24 hours of surgery, and may assign another licensed veterinarian to provide such follow-up care.

The state veterinary medical licensing board shall adopt policies and procedures to administer the program, including requirements for documenting eligible services.
