Health benefit plans must provide coverage for telemedicine services on the same basis and to the same extent as in-person health care services.

Health benefit plans cannot exclude coverage for any service solely because it is provided through telemedicine.

Health benefit plans cannot impose annual or lifetime benefit maximums on telemedicine services that differ from maximums applied to all other plan benefits.

Cost-sharing requirements (copayments, deductibles, coinsurance) for telemedicine services cannot exceed those charged for comparable in-person health care services.

The law applies to all health benefit plans issued, offered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2019.
