The Director of Agriculture must adopt rules requiring objective written or electronic assessments of registered sanitarians and sanitarians-in-training who conduct retail food establishment inspections, with assessments not exceeding 50 questions and requiring an 80% passing score.

Assessment development must involve the Director of Agriculture, Ohio environmental health association, and association of Ohio health commissioners for retail food establishments; similar process applies to the Director of Health for food service operations.

Individuals being assessed are permitted to review the Ohio uniform food safety code during the assessment.

The Director of Agriculture and Director of Health must evaluate whether sanitarians and sanitarians-in-training have sufficient knowledge of relevant provisions, adopted rules, and the Ohio uniform food safety code to conduct inspections and enforcement.

Existing sections 3717.33 and 3717.52 of the Revised Code are repealed and replaced with these new assessment requirements.
