Officer James Swearingen of the Miami Township Police Department received a 2018 Distinguished Law Enforcement Valor Award from the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

On February 5, 2018, while driving to work off-duty, Officer Swearingen witnessed a potential carjacking and used his off-duty weapon to disarm the individual and take him into custody.

The apprehension ended a crime spree that included an armed robbery of a gas station and an earlier carjacking.

The House of Representatives commended Officer Swearingen for outstanding accomplishment and saluted him as one of Ohio's finest law enforcement officers.

The Clerk of the House of Representatives was directed to transmit an authenticated copy of the resolution to Officer James Swearingen.
