S.B. No. 348 Summary

• Establishes the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Task Force within the Department of Health, consisting of 17 types of members including individuals with Alzheimer's disease, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, and legislators appointed by the Governor, Senate President, and House Speaker.

• Task Force shall examine needs of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, available services, and provider capacity to meet current and future needs, then make findings and recommendations on trends, existing resources, and policies addressing detection, treatment, research, caregiver support, and public safety.

• Director of Health serves as chairperson; Task Force must hold first meeting within 30 days of member appointment and thereafter at chairperson's call, with majority constituting a quorum and compliance with public records and open meetings requirements.

• Task Force must submit a comprehensive report to the Governor and General Assembly detailing findings and recommendations within 18 months of the effective date, after which the Task Force ceases to exist.

• Department of Health may use private funding sources to assist in completing Task Force duties and shall provide meeting space, staff, and administrative support.
