H.B. No. 156 Summary

• Amends section 2923.126 of the Revised Code to grant civil immunity to nonprofit corporations and persons associated with them for injuries, deaths, or losses resulting from licensees carrying handguns on nonprofit premises or at nonprofit-organized events.

• Nonprofit corporation immunity applies unless the nonprofit corporation, volunteer, member, officer, or independent contractor acted with malicious purpose.

• Nonprofit corporations and their volunteers, members, officers, and independent contractors are also immune from liability for injuries or losses caused by the nonprofit's decision to permit or prohibit licensees from bringing handguns onto premises.

• Defines "nonprofit corporation" as any private organization exempt from federal income taxation under Internal Revenue Code sections 501(a) and 501(c).

• Existing civil immunity provisions for private employers, political subdivisions, and institutions of higher education remain unchanged.
