H.B. No. 298 - Summary

• Amends section 2901.13 of the Revised Code to modify the statute of limitations for prosecuting offenses involving child abuse and neglect under Title XXIX of the Revised Code.

• The limitation period for child abuse and neglect offenses does not begin to run until either the victim reaches the age of majority or a public children services agency or peace officer is notified that abuse or neglect is known, suspected, or believed to have occurred.

• Applies to violations involving physical or mental wounds, injuries, disabilities, or conditions of children under eighteen years of age or children with developmental disabilities or physical impairments under twenty-one years of age.

• Maintains existing statutes of limitations for other offenses, including six years for felonies, two years for misdemeanors, and six months for minor misdemeanors.
