Amended Senate Bill No. 24 Summary

• Establishes the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Task Force within the Department of Aging with 24 member categories including patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, advocacy organizations, state officials, and bipartisan legislators.

• Governor appoints members described in divisions (A)(1) to (17) within 90 days of the act's effective date, with Senate President and House Speaker appointing legislative members; at least one advocacy member must be selected by the Alzheimer's Association.

• Task Force shall examine needs of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, assess available services, and make findings and recommendations on population trends, existing resources, and policies addressing public awareness, detection, diagnosis, healthcare quality, caregiver support, research, and legal protections.

• Director of Aging serves as chairperson and Director of Health as vice chairperson; Task Force must hold first meeting within 30 days of member appointment and thereafter at chairperson's call, with quorum requiring a majority of members.

• Task Force must submit a detailed report to the Governor and General Assembly within 18 months of the effective date, after which the Task Force ceases to exist; Department of Aging provides meeting space and administrative support.
