H.B. 171 Summary

• Creates a new "Keep Ohio Beautiful" license plate program allowing vehicle owners to display plates with an appropriate logo and words approved by Keep Ohio Beautiful, incorporated and the registrar of motor vehicles.

• Requires a $20 contribution per registration or renewal that goes to the license plate contribution fund, plus a $10 administrative fee for the bureau of motor vehicles.

• Designates contributions collected from the "Keep Ohio Beautiful" license plates to Keep Ohio Beautiful, incorporated to support its mission of empowering Ohio communities to improve local environments through litter prevention, beautification, community greening, waste reduction, and recycling.

• Amends section 4501.21 to add the new license plate (section 4503.578) to the list of specialty license plates whose contributions feed into the license plate contribution fund distributed to various charitable and educational organizations statewide.

• Provides that the $10 administrative fee goes to the public safety-highway purposes fund to compensate the bureau of motor vehicles for additional services required to issue these specialty plates.
